CONVENTIONS - NYC '09 - presenter bios

Nicki Anderson is a 25-year industry veteran. She owns an award winning personal training studio and lectures all over the country. Nicki is the author of numerous books, articles and is a columnist for newspapers and magazines.

Abbie Appel is ACE, AFAA, NASM certified, a PIA Pilates Master Trainer, and a Reebok University Master Trainer. Trained in dance and vocal performance, she has moved those skills in her work within various television programs, including Kiana's Flex Appeal on ESPN.

Ilene Bergelson, ACSM-HFI, ACE-CPT, CHEK Level 2, HLC 1, a veteran performer-turned fitness professional, Ilene has danced on Broadway and worked with rehabilitation specialists throughout the U.S.. She has been published by PT on the Net and lectured nationally. As founder of Lifemoves, Ilene offers CEC workshops including her popular EmpowerSpeak™ and Training for the Sport of Motherhood™ series.

Lawrence Biscontini, M.A. has won "Instructor of the Year" awards from ACE (2002), IDEA (2004), CanFitPro (Specialty 2004) and "Best Mind Body Presenter ECA (2005). Lawrence works as a trainer and Wellness And Spa Consultant for his company, FG2000, Golden Door Spas, Reebok, AFAA, Resist-a-ball International, and Gliding and has created " Yo-Chi".

Benjamin Black has lived on four continents working in strategy consulting, professional sports and music, working with clients like Jerry Bruckheimer, Tyra Banks, Warner Brothers, Nike, Sony, Booz Allen, and Cirque du Soleil. Benjamin presents self-discovery, branding and yoga workshops around the world.

Jay Blahnik is a former IDEA Fitness Instructor of the Year, Can Fit Pro Instructor of the Year, Nike Athlete and Fitness Expert for MSNBC.com and The LA Times.

Angie Bunch is a professional dancer and Nike Inc. sponsored dance athlete from San Diego. She has been recently honored with the Channel 10 News "Leadership Award". Angie is Founder and Executive Director of Culture Shock Dance Troupes Inc.

Frank Butterfield is certified by ACE as a Personal Trainer, Group Fitness Instructor, Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant and Clinical Exercise Specialist. Frank created and implemented the NIKE Network program, served as a member of the Speed, Agility and Quickness development team, headed the launch team for the US launch of Body Pump. At irregular intervals in his professional fitness career, he has also been an academic recruiter for USC, Fitness Events Manager for NIKE, and Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Las Vegas.

Annie Carpenter is renown for developing SmartFlow Yoga She leads teacher trainings, workshops, and retreats in Los Angeles and abroad. Known as a teachers’ teacher, she has developed an intelligent blend of sequencing with detailed instruction that seamlessly hooks each practice to a structural key unlocking any obstacles to freedom within the body, while bringing the mind to a focused, steady state. Annie appears in the Yoga Journal Book, “Yoga,” and has modeled for Yoga Journal several times.

Sherry Catlin has presented in 25 countries and 23 states. She's a Continuing Education Specialist for ACE, the Director of Program Development for Body Bar Systems and a member of the Elite National Training Team for Systematic Touch Training.

Paul Chek, HHP Internationally acclaimed speaker, consultant and Holistic Health Practitioner Paul Chek, draws upon over twenty-five years of experience in corrective exercise, high performance conditioning and integrative lifestyle management. Author of six books, over 60 DVDs and numerous correspondence courses and seminars, he has also developed four certification programs for advanced professional development in the health and fitness industry. Paul is the founder of the C.H.E.K Institute, based in San Diego, CA which specializes in Corrective Holistic Exercise Kinesiology He is also the creator of the P~P~S Success Mastery Program .

Matthew Cohen is a 5th Degree Black belt in Shaolin style Kung Fu and a teacher of Yoga, Chinese Martial and Healing Arts for more than two decades. Matthew is the director of Sacred Energy Arts Center in Santa Monica, California.

Alwyn Cosgrove is the owner of Results Fitness Training, a complete fitness programming and consulting service. He’s the author of New Rules of Lifting and the New Rules of Lifting for Women as well as numerous articles and publications and a consultant for Rodale Publications & Men's Health Magazine.

Lashaun Dale, MA, MPH, HLC 2, NSCA-CPT teaches and is Creative Manager of Group Fitness at Equinox Fitness Clubs. Lashaun is certified and by NSCA, CHEK and other organizations specializing in yoga, core strength, flexibility training and youth fitness.

R. Mark Davis, a consummate strategist, manager and thought leader, plays a vital role in helping organizations actualize goals, discover unrecognized opportunities, optimize management leadership and develop strategic initiatives. He is President of SRL Partners, a sustainability, social responsibility and leadership consultancy, and the former CEO of The Organic Center.

DALIEN is a Grammy nominated singer/songwriter and adjunct Professor of Yoga and meditation at Montclair State and Jersey City State University in NJ. His background in health, yoga, sound/mind-body therapy and Shamanism work spans 20 years and has presented programs for ECA, WSSC, New Life Health Expo, Ananda Ashram, Omega Institute and various social service and health related venues.

Fred DeVito is the vice-President of Movement Classes + training. He co-founded the company's proprietary Core Fusion® class program and teacher training program. Fred directs the Core Fusion® program, teacher training strategy and certification program, and teaching academy infrastructure to support a multi site roll out.

Shannon Fable was named the 2006 ACE Group Fitness Instructor of the Year. She is the founder and CEO of Sunshine Fitness Resources, a fitness consulting firm experienced in providing services for instructors, aspiring presenters, fitness manufacturers and managers. Fable is an international presenter for several well-known companies including the Nautilus Institute, BOSU, Power Systems and ACE.

Dana Flynn is the Co-Director of Laughing Lotus Yoga Center in NYC and SF. Dana lives to share what she loves with the curiosity of an eternal student. She approaches her life and practice with fresh insight, exploring the movement as medicine, the romance of the breath and the freedom of the SOUL as a mind-blowing, heart-expanding daily Blessing. She is celebrated as the Teacher's Teacher.

Molly Fox began her 28-year teaching career at the Jane Fonda Workout on Maiden Lane in 1979. Yikes! Barefoot too. She then moved to NYC, got some shoes and taught everything at her own studio, The Molly Fox Studios. In 1994 she threw off her shoes and began teaching Yoga. She has never looked back. Molly currently teaches classes around the San Francisco Bay Area that include Deep Flow Yoga, Pilates Mat, NIA and her very own Stiletto Camp. She has Happy Feet.

John Garey has studied Pilates for more than 15 years and owns Los Angeles-based John Garey Pilates, a STOTT PILATES® Licensed Training Center and Competitor magazine’s choice for "the best Pilates studio in Southern California." John is a regular contributor to pilates and fitness articles featured in national publications such as Men’s Fitness, Shape and the Los Angeles Times. He was named one of the three most popular instructors in Chicago by The Chicago Tribune, and one of the top six most notable instructors in the United States by American Fitness Magazine. He holds a Masters degree in Adult Fitness from NYU.

Rob Glick was named the 2006 International Presenter of the Year by CanFit Pro and the 2005 Best Male Presenter by ECA. He holds a B.S. in exercise science and continues to bring cutting-edge education, programming and choreography to the fitness industry as a member of the creative team for EFI Sports Medicine's GRAVITYSystem and continuing education provider for both ACE and AFAA. He is a master trainer on the Schwinn Cycling, BOSU and Body Bar teams as well as co-creator of the 5 Star Instructor Development program.

Abby Goldenberg presented master classes in Boston, San Juan and has appeared on NY's WB-Channel 11. She is currently bringing her unique style and energy to Equinox Fitness Clubs and Reebok Sports Clubs.

Ellen Goldman is the founder of EnerG Coaching, providing wellness coaching, personal training, and seminars on health and well-being. She holds a BS and Masters in Physical Education, and is certified by ACSM, AFAA, and Wellcoaches Corporation.

Patrick Goudeau is a former U.S. National Aerobic Champion and the recipient of four ECA OBOW Awards. He has recently released 7 highly acclaimed workout videos through the Patrick Video Series, and has been in numerous publications including "Fitness", "Health" and "Real Simple" and is one of the featured instructors on "All-Star Workouts" on The Discovery Channel/FitTV.

Clay Grant has been successfully competing, performing, coaching and teaching in the aerobics and fitness industry for almost 20 years. Clay is a Silver and Bronze Medalist in the US National Aerobic Championship. Certifications include: AFAA, ACE, Step Reebok and Pilates Allegro.

Elisabeth Halfpapp co-founded Core Fusion® and has developed Core Energy Flow and Core Fusion Sport for Exhale. Elisabeth designs and administrates and directs Exhale's movement programming strategy for yoga and Core Fusion® classes, workshops, and retreat offerings which provides over 250 yoga, healing and Core Fusion® workshops. She also co-developed with Fred DeVito, the first 2 long awaited Core Fusion DVDs,.

Ellie Herman is an internationally renowned pilates instructor, author and inventor. Ellie has authored eight pilates books to date including Pilates for Dummies. Ellie has developed the Walk-ilates system and has designed the Pilates Springboard. Ellie Herman Studio is located in Park Slope, Brooklyn.

Amy Ippoliti has been a certified Anusara Yoga teacher since 2000. She has traveled extensively with Anusara founder, John Friend, apprenticing with him on his national tours, and continues to be a leader in the Anusara Yoga community. Amy has also studied closely with Tantric scholar, Dr. Douglas Brooks since 1999. Amy leads Anusara Yoga retreats, Immersions workshops, and teacher trainings internationally.

Sarina Jain, America’s first cross-cultural fitness star is the creator of the Masala Bhangra Workout. She is an energetic fitness innovator, music-video choreographer and international television/radio personality. She hosts her own TV segment on Discovery Channel’s Fit TV and has a show on Exercise TV. Her regular appearances on NBC’s Today, ABC National News and other major media have catapulted her to fame across mainstream America.

Scott Josephson, M.S. is the Director of Operations at Hippocrates Health Institute, a premier life changing property in West Palm Beach, Florida. Scott is a national level conference speaker throughout the United States and Canada, a recipient of numerous awards and is frequently published. In addition to several certifications, he holds a degree from the University of Miami and is on the advisory board of the American Fitness Professionals and Associates. His work portfolio includes Geraldo Rivera, Wimbledon Champion Chris Evert and athletes from the New York Giants and New York Mets.

June Kahn is the founder of June Kahn’s Bodyworks, LLC, & Educational Director for Beamfit, LLC. June is best known for bridging the gap between traditional Pilates and the fitness industry.

Dr. Jason R. Karp has a Ph.D. in exercise physiology, and is director and coach of REVO2LT Running Team, a freelance writer, and fitness consultant. He writes for numerous running, coaching, and fitness magazines. He has coached high school and college cross country and track and field, and currently coaches athletes of all levels and consults with fitness professionals and other coaches through RunCoachJason.com.

Paul Katami is currently a Group Fitness Manager for Equinox. His background includes Personal Training, the Katamibar program, and national programs like Band Camp! Paul has been featured in numerous videos, publications, and television shows as a fitness expert.

Cheyenne Kibblewhite has been teaching Hip Hop dance and Cardio Hip Hop for over 10 years. A member of Culture Shock® since 1995, Cheyenne continues to work professionally as a dancer and choreographer and holds a BS in Psychology.

Petra Kolber is a Reebok University Master Trainer and ACSM, NASM (CGT), ACE, AFAA certified. She's winner of 2004 and 2003 ECA Best Female Presenter of the Year, 2001 IDEA Fitness Instructor of the Year, the 2000 Canadian Fitness Professionals International Instructor Of The Year and awarded 1999 Fitness Crusader of the Year by Health magazine. Petra has numerous videos on the market, and has been a Contributing Editor for many women's health magazines and has appeared on television as a fitness expert.

Kim Kraushar is the proud owner of one of the first STOTT PILATES® Licensed Training Centers in the country and has trained hundreds of health and fitness professionals throughout Atlantic Canada. Kim studied at York University where she received her B.F.A. Dance/B.Ed. and completed her B.Sc. Kinesiology at Dalhousie University. She is also a STOTT PILATES Certified Instructor Trainer, Yamuna Body Rolling Certified Instructor Trainer, and Certified Franklin Method Instructor.

Stacey Lei Krauss is a Nike Elite Instructor with over 20 years in the fitness industry. She specializes in barefoot training and lifestyle integration techniques. Stacey is a Reiki practitioner, and a master trainer for Nautilus, BOSU and BeamFit and a Teacher- Trainer for Peak Pilates. Certifications: ACE, ACSM, AFAA.

Len Kravitz, Ph.D., is the Program Coordinator of Exercise Science and Researcher at the University of New Mexico where he recently won the "Outstanding Teacher of the Year" award. Len was honored with the 1999 Canadian Fitness Professional "International Presenter of the Year" and the 2006 Canadian Fitness Professional "Specialty Presenter of the Year" awards and chosen as the American Council on Exercise 2006 "Fitness Educator of the Year".

Elizabeth Larkam is a Pilates Method Alliance Gold-Certified instructor with 23 years experience in clinical, dance, fitness and academic environments. Educated in the original Pilates techniques by the Pilates elders, Elizabeth is a Guild-Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner, Gyrotonic (registered trademark) and Gyrokinesis (registered trademark) instructor, Franklin Method teacher and OM Yoga instructor. She is the Fitness Editor for PilatesStyle and mind body spokesperson for the American Council on Exercise. Elizabeth is director of Pilates & Beyond at Western Athletic Clubs. Prior to this position she worked 15 years as a Pilates Specialist at the Center for Sports Medicine, Saint Francis Memorial Hospital, in San Francisco.

Michelle Mascari has been in the health and fitness industry for 20 years and managing group exercise for 15 years. She opened her own fitness studio, has been hired by Gold’s Gym to regionally train and mentor instructors and laeter moved on to manage Group Fitness for Equinox Fitness clubs. Michelle is now Group Fitness Coordinator for Lifetime Fitness Corporation South Florida. She is also the Creator of “Just a Towel “and has been in featured in Fitness videos and in Self Magazine for her creative workouts.

Roberto E Melani is a world-reknown international presenter who has presented at major fitness conventions in the US, Australia, Europe, Central and South America and in the Middle East. He is currently based in San Francisco, California teaching for Crunch and Gold's Gym.

David Mesirow is the creator of Beamfit™, the logical outcome of his 29 years as a leader in the fitness industry. David is a former Reebok Master Trainer and Avia Athlete.

Dr. Kara Mohr, PhD, FACSM is the Co-owner of Mohr Results Inc, a fitness and nutrition company based in Louisville, KY. She is a nationally and internationally known educator in the area of weight loss, behavior change and exercise.

Christopher Mohr, PhD, RD, co-owner of Mohr Results, Inc a nutrition and fitness company in Louisville Kentucky. He is the sports nutritionist for Under Armour, works with Discovery Health Channel, Nordic Naturals, Clif Bar and clients around the world.

Ilaria Montagnani, the co-creator of PowerStrike™, is a weapons expert and has a black belt in Shorinjiryu Kenkokai Karatedo. She is a Nike Endorsed Fitness Athlete and named by New York Magazine as one of the leading fitness "Gurus". Ilaria has transformed the practice of martial art and become one of the most well respected and sought after professional in the fitness industry. Ilaria is the president of Powerstrike Inc. whose original class, Powerstrike, combines authentic karate movements with energizing music in an imaginative kickboxing format.

Patricia Moreno is an international presenter, Nike Elite athlete and motivational speaker. She has made creating fitness programs, life coaching and educating her passion. She is the owner of IntenSatilife.com, and the creator of the latest breakthrough in mind body fitness, IntenSati. Patricia has been voted "NYC Best Instructor" by the media for years and in 2006 won ECA Best Female presenter award.

Mindy Mylrea is the 2008 ECA Best Female Presenter, 2004 CanFit PRO International Presenter of the Year, and the 1999 International IDEA Fitness Instructor of the Year. She's a National and World Aerobic Champion and is the creator and lead talent behind Gliding. Mindy is also a master trainer for Schwinn Cycling and is on the pro development team for Bosu, CorePole and Body Bar.

Dr. Evan Osar received degrees from Palmer College of Chiropractic. He is certified through ACE, NASM, NSCA and MAT and has presented for ACE, IDEA, Perform Better, Fitness Education Seminars, the NSCA and IYCA.

Sophie Pachella has appeared on the WB11 and CBS news and has lectured at AHA campaigns, spas and corporations. She writes for numerous publications and is the spokesperson for Chobani, a national brand of Greek yogurt. Her private practice is based in Manhattan.

Iona Passik has been a certified Spinning Instructor for almost fifteen years. In the 1990's, Iona went overseas to train Spinning Instructors in eleven European countries over a three-month period. Since returning to the US, she’s trained thousands of instructors and continues to do so. Iona is an ACE and AFAA continuing education provider. She lives in New York with her husband and trains in Central Park.

Beto Perez is the creative force behind Zumba, the fitness formula that has revolutionized the way people think about exercise. Zumba has become the world’s leading fitness-party™ with over two million students around the world.

Jackie Prete is a Senior Certified Anusara Instructor with 18 years of teaching experience. She is also certified with the White Lotus Foundation and Om Yoga Center in NYC. Jackie is a licensed Massage Therapist and has been practicing yoga therapy for the past 10 years. Jackie leads Teacher Trainings and Therapeutic trainings in Japan and NYC. She has been teaching at Equinox Fitness clubs and also teaches at The World Yoga Center on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Jackie is the owner of Ram Sangha Retreats and co-lead retreats in Mexico, Costa Rica and in the Catskills for the past 8 years.

Fraser Quelch is the Head Coach and Director of Training and Development for Fitness Anywhere and its revolutionary TRX Suspension Training Program. An internationally renowned expert in the fields of functional training and human movement, Fraser has lectured at conferences and events in Europe, Australia, Asia and North America and is a featured fitness author. He thrives on bringing new ideas to the forefront of the industry, stretching the minds of his audiences and providing relevant and effective training solutions in a practical setting.

Christiane Reiter’s name stands for groundbreaking development in the international fitness-and dance scene, and been named “Presenter of the Year” four times. Being a popular instructor at several European academies, Christiane also teaches at numerous sports organizations and works as a choreographer for shows and TV performances. Her trendsetting presentations are in great demand around the globe.

Laura Rooney, MS, E-RYT, holds a master’s degree in exercise and wellness and researches physical activity and disease prevention while completing her PhD in public health. She is a YogaFit trainer and fitness instructor.

Desiree Rumbaugh is a certified Anusara Yoga teacher with over twenty years experience. She is the creator of two yoga DVD's: "Yoga to the Rescue". She travels the globe leading yoga workshops and retreats.

Jennifer Sage is a Master Instructor for the Spinning program, and is the Spinning Coordinator and a personal trainer at the Aria Spa and Club in Vail, Colorado. She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Certified Personal Trainer and Certified Ski Instructor. A group exercise instructor since 1980, she also runs her own personal training, fitness consulting and massage business called Reach Your Peak.

Juan Carlos Santana, M.Ed., C.S.C.S. serves as NSCA Florida State Director and is a member of the NSCA Conference Committee. He is ACSM certified and a Senior Coach and Club Coach Course Instructor with USA Weightlifting, and a Level I coach with the USA Track and Field Association. Carlos is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Miami's Department of Exercise and Sport Sciences.

Jeffrey Scott is an international fitness presenter and Master Trainer. With over 15 years experience in the Health and Fitness Industry he is recognized as a top fitness educator, writer, instructor and personal trainer whose client list has included many of Hollywood's "A" list celebrities. Jeffrey has starred in over 20 fitness videos and has also appeared in numerous TV shows, including Fox's Wake Up New York, Good Day LA and NBC's The Today Show, to name a few.

Robert Steinbacher is a former gymnast who started his career as a dancer and choreographer at one of the most popular dance academies in New York City. Since then he has gained over 15 years of experience internationally as an educator, presenter and choreographer. As a movement therapist, he created the body art training system 15 years ago and is the owner of one of Europe's biggest movement and mind-center schools which educates over 3000 instructors and body-workers worldwide.

Joshua Taylor is a Master Instructor for the Spinning program and a professional cyclist. A seasoned athlete who has been competing at the highest levels of bike racing for over 17 years, Joshua is a two-time PA state road race champion and has raced against some of the top international cyclists in the world in events such as the San Francisco Grand Prix. Josh is currently the team manager/rider for Rite Aid Pro Cycling Team.

Misty Tripoli, creator of Tribal Fitness, is a Nike Elite Instructor and one of the worlds most innovative and engaging fitness instructors, dance choreographers and personal trainers. Misty is well-known for her many revolutionary fitness classes that explode with her passion for dance, yoga, martial arts, Pilates, self expression and meditation.

Lisa Wheeler, international presenter and dancer, National Creative Project Manager for Equinox, Global Master Trainer for Body Bar, Assistant Director/Choreographer for Fit Vid Productions, Contributing Fitness Editor for Shape Magazine, Associate Artistic Director of Ben Munisteri Dance Projects, featured in over 20 fitness dvds and proud recipient of two OBOW awards for Best Female Presenter and Best Original Class.

Chuck Wolf, MS, has a Masters of Science Degree in Cardiovascular Health and Applied Biomechanics from George Williams College. He presently is the Director of Sport Science and Human Performance for Human Motion Associates and Sports Specific Training & Rehabilitation, in Orlando, Florida. Chuck has published numerous articles and presented at many national and international conferences in the areas of human motion, sports science, and human performance. He is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine.

Alisa Wyatt is creator of the DVD, Pilates for Men. As a pilates expert, she’s featured in national publications like Pilates Style (May/June 2008) and TheStreet.com. In addition to teaching at retreats and conferences internationally, Alisa trains privately at her Los Angeles studio.
